Basketball England Announce End of 2019-20 Season

All basketball activities cancelled due to coronavirus pandemic. Read the Impact on WMBL Competitions here.

Following on from government advice given on 16th March Basketball England have expanded on their decision to suspend play for two weeks by cancelling ALL basketball activities for the entire 2019-20 season. You can read their statement and FAQs in full on the BE website.

In response to this, WMBL competitions will be resolved as follows:

  • All unplayed league games will be classed a draw and 2 points given to each team. This splits the 4 available points usually available from a match (3 for a win, 1 for a loss) evenly. League winners and runners-up will be awarded based on final positions in the table once these updates have been applied.
  • All Rosebowl and Knockout Shield games are cancelled. WMBL would like to reward the teams who made it to the semi-finals and so will be looking into how the competitions could be resolved satisfactorily early next season.
  • All Divisional Playoffs are cancelled
  • Summer League is cancelled

WMBL advises everyone to follow government advice and practice social distancing whenever possible to limit the spread of this virus and the number of people seriously afflicted.

We wish everyone the very best in dealing with these difficult times and hope to see you all back on the courts next season.
